How Is It Done ?
SEO copywriting experts analyse the top ten results for your chosen keyword phrase and search
engine.  They note and replicate the places where keyword phrases are used, the number of
times they are used, and the format in which they are displayed.  SEO copywriting experts will
typically look at the number of words on the page, as well as the number of times each keyword
and keyword phrase appears on the page in:  (1) plain or bold text; (2) headings; (3) link text and
link URLs; and (4) the first sentence of the page.

Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when you are deciding how to construct your
page content.  

  • Always view the content of your web site from the eyes of a first-time visitor.  Think
    about what they want and need.  Give it to them.  If you remember nothing else, this is the
    MOST important take-away from this page.
  • A good rule of thumb is to aim for approximately 500 words per page.
  • Make sure the page content flows naturally.  Your page will be penalized for perceived
    keyword stacking or stuffing.  Create accurate, entertaining, complete and up-to-date content
    that people will want to bookmark and come back to, time and again.
  • Keep your pages as simple as possible while still aesthetically pleasing. Search engines
    prefer plain black (or dark) text on white (or light) backgrounds.
  • Target an audience with a high school education unless told otherwise.
  • Use 1 or (at most) 2 primary keyword / keyword phrases per page.  
  • Use the longer and plural form of a keyword when possible.
  • Use primary keywords and keyword phrases frequently and prominently:
  • Frequently means approximately 3 to 6 percent of the text on the page should be
    keywords.  
  • Prominently means keyword text should be displayed in a larger font, bolded, italicized,
    bulleted, and positioned high on the page and to the left.
  • Sprinkle secondary or long-tail keyword phrases all throughout the page.
  • Never use identical keywords back-to-back.    
  • Use keywords in your bread crumbs.  Bread crumbs are text-based navigation links that
    show where the currently viewed web page lies in the site hierarchy. As an example, a
    product page for a "sharpee pen" might  have the bread crumb navigation of “Home > Office
    Supplies > Writing Utensils > Sharpee Pens.”

We recommend crafting your page content using MS Word.  You can use the "word count" function
within the tools menu to count the number of words per page and keyword densities.
