Which Common Search Engine Does Not Use Meta Tags?

What are Meta Tags ?
A meta tag is documentation that accompanies a web page and tells search engines, web
browsers and potential visitors what the page is about. There are different meta tags to describe
different components of a page, for example, the page title, description and keywords.

Which common search engine does
not use meta tags ?
No search engine completely ignores meta tags.  In fact, the title tag is the single most important
factor when it comes to having your page found on the web. It is what you see in the upper left-
most corner of your screen when a page is displayed.
(Our Title tag reads "What are meta tags? |

The description meta tag is often (but not
always) listed under the bold and underlined headings in search engine results.  The keywords
meta tag is the one that continues to cause the most confusion, although all the major search
engines have said that they no longer support it's use.

A bit of history gives us insight into why that might be the case.  Small, general purpose
computers were first introduced into the US marketplace in the late 1970's early 1980's. These
were stand-alone computers for personal use.  They were not easy to use and they were not
inexpensive.  In the early 90's the
Internet emerged as a means of connecting disparate
computers and sharing content.  The content itself became known as the World Wide Web.
Search
engines started as a way of indexing and enabling access content.  When there weren't
that many pages, and there weren't that many people looking to find the
m, all you had to do was
submit your content to a search engine for indexing.
It wasn't long before people discovered that
they could easily trick search engines into thinking a web page was largely about "keyword-A" by
stuffing the meta keyword tag with repeated instances of "keyword-A".  They also took advantage
of being able to use their competitor's brand name and keyword phrases in the meta keywords
tag.  Search engine companies soon discovered this potential for abuse and began to devise
policies to thwart these attempts.

There is no clear industry consensus within the SEO community on how search engines are
believed to be using meta keyword tags today.  Google Software Engineer Matt Cutts clearly
stated in a September 21, 2009 post to the "Official Google Webmaster Central Blog" that "we
don't the use keyword meta tag in our search rankings."  In October 2009, Yahoo was the last of
the big 3 (Yahoo, Bing & Google) to announce that
it no longer supports the meta keywords tag.

What do we recommend ?
Due to the ongoing controversy; acknowledging that policies can and do change; and recognizing
there are far more than just three search engines,
we recommend continued use of the meta
keywords tag:

    (1) List the keywords and/or keyword phrases you are using to optimize the page in priority
order, left-to-right, in the meta keyword tag.
    (2) List them once and once only.
    (3) Ensure every keyword and keyword phrase listed in the keywords meta tag appears at
least once in the viewable content of the page.  Otherwise remove them as they will be
    perceived negatively.
