We use a proprietary checklist to make
sure your site can be optimized...
B-SeenOnTop uses a proprietary checklist called the TotalC Checklist For Evaluating Websites
Excel (41KB).  Our checklist gauges your website's overall health and search engine friendliness.
We can tell you what (if anything) is getting in the way of your site achieving its objectives
and how to fix it
.

TotalC is an acronym that stands for Technology, Ownership, Traffic, Age, Links and Content.
These are the broad categories of criteria we use to evaluate your web site.
 These also
represent what search engines look at when deciding how to rank your website.

  • By reviewing a site's Technology we can determine what, if anything, is getting in the
way of a search engine's ability to index it.  Sometimes something in the site design will
impede a search engine's ability to crawl / spider & index the site.  This is a show-stopper
when it comes to optimizing an existing website.  You need to know up front.  We'll tell you
if there is a problem, and we'll help you work your design firm to fix it.

  • By verifying a website's Ownership we can determine the risk of future loss and/or
failure.  If you are not a registered owner of your domain name, you risk losing your online
brand.  If you use the proprietary software of a failing business, you risk losing
    functionality.

  • An existing website's Traffic is an indication of how easy or difficult it is to find, it's
visibility and popularity.  A site has to be visible, have inbound links pointing to it and
visitors in order to rank well with the search engines.

  • Age.  An older website will always rank higher than a new one. If your site is younger than
all of the current top 10, you are going to have to excel in one or more of these other
checklist categories to make up for your lack of maturity.

  • Websites with a large number of highly relevant, varied and respected / authoritative
incoming Links will almost always rank higher than one with less incoming links. The
quality of incoming links is much more important than the quantity of incoming links.
Unrelated, non-authoritative incoming links are worth little if anything.

  • Websites with sought-after, original, fresh, fun, controversial or inspiring Content will
naturally draw the most traffic and back links to your site.  Websites with content targeted
specifically to their intended audience will draw the "right" traffic, and have more
    conversions.

Here is a link to the
TOTALC Checklist For Evaluating Websites Excel (41KB).  It is an Excel
spreadsheet with two tabs. The first tab is used to document a summary of findings.  The second
tab contains the detailed questions we use to come up with our summary evaluation.

We share our findings and offer
recommendations.
Completing this checklist will NOT solve all your problems and position you for top rankings in
Google and the other popular search engines.  It is a starting point and is intended to make sure
you do not spend money on search engine optimization if there are inherent design flaws
that
need to be fixed first
.

When you are ready to take the next step, we will
request your permission to proceed onto the
research and analysis phase of our SEO project methodology.  In this phase, we will work with
you to define t
he specific scope, objectives, work plan and budget for optimization of your
website
.  You will have options to choose from, and you will know what to expect and when.
